We've Arrived!

After a pleasant two hour drive through the forests and hills to Missoula, 6 varied hours in two airplanes and three airports, 45minutes on the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and a gruelling hike UP-hill for 9 blocks pulling towing our over-stuffed suitcases, we have arrived at the Hotel Carlton in San Francisco. The Carlton is a 'boutique hotel' meaning a renovated but still quaintly charming OLD building. It is nice and cozy and well decorated in a trendy way.

We emptied our suitcases into the drawers and HUGE walk-in closet, and tromped back out into the frenzied fray (zillions of people) coming and going looking for some dinner. Didn't we see all kids of clothing and shoes and hairdos and makeup - male and female. The noise of traffic, stereos, sirens, street musicians and sheer density of people is almost overwhelming after our quiet and sheltered sojourn in the woods.

But we had GREAT Vietnamese noodles for supper - there seems to be a noodle house on almost every block near our hotel. We had cold salad rolls which were just bursting with fresh mint and basil - delicious. I have missed those so much, but these were the BEST we'd every had. We did a little shopping and then we trooped back to our hotel to await a phone call from our son. He's an hour behind the times living here on the coast, and preparing for his big speech on Sunday...I think we may bow to our better sense and just go to bed. We can meet him for breakfast tomorrow!
