Interplanetary Travel:

For the last 13 daysI have been in several different places. Places so different and so beautiful, it was truly like being in different worlds! And I have rubbed shoulders with some of the most beautiful people.

Planet Normal - March 24-25 Dave and I went to Twin Falls, Idaho to spend time with his siblings - all 5 of them, and their spouses were there, as were several friends: It was so thrilling to me to step out onto Nancy's patio to find, sitting in the sunshine, all these precious family members. We also met some new friends who have a red wall in their living room and red leather couches- very cool! They also have a baby grand piano - how's the song coming Dick?

Planet Gorgeous - The drive home along the Challis road was spectacular. It was sunset and in the late evening sun, the rock walls of the canyon positively glowed orange and pink. The hills beyond were dusted with the faintest spring green - it was absolutely like being in a post card of Idaho.

Planet Wow - Monday moring I was off to Missoula to catch plane to El Paso, TX for a very overdue visit with my sister. That was REALLY like being on a diffferent planet. During the three hour drive to Fort Davis I had plent of time to peruse the desert landscape. The near landscape is very rocky, flat, and bristly with low growing, tough looking plants and small cacti. Farther back are coral colored hills which look like giant piles of huge boulders; behind those are individual cone shaped hills looking suspiciously like dormant volcanos. The air was hazy and the effect on the far landscape was very mystical and moon-like.

I had a marvelous visit with Carolyn and 'the kids'. We ate good, plain, healthy food. We lavished our affections upon new born lambs, chickens, geese and cows and each other. We took hot dry walks through the desert. We chatted endlessly, we watered the garden copiously, we smiled a lot. I drove a really big diesel truck pulling a really big tractor. Before I knew it, it was time for another three hour drive to El Paso to catch the plane - this time to Spokane, Washington (through Denver on two puddle jumpers, just so you know how I suffered).

Planet Girlfriends - Hoping to have a hot bath and a relaxing evening with girlfriends, I was instead given 30 minutes to transform myself from a dusty, travelling farm girl into a freshly coiffed, and perfectly turned out city girl, and whisked away to a dinner part at the old Spaghetti Factory. It turned out to be a fun and delicious evening.

The next morning (Tuesday) my town girlfriends and I enjoyed a breakfast of yogurt and fresh berries and then we went shopping. We shopped all day! We broke for Thai lunch, coffee, wine at Mary's and then dinner in a posh restaurant overlooking Spokane Falls. We wore the new things we had purchased that day.

Planet Gibbonsville - A 6 hour drive home (Wednesday) and I am again in the bosom of my two best friends in the world, my Daves. My river, my tall Ponderosa Pines, my tiny cottage, my life. It was great to get away and it was great to get home.
