Small Town Service

Bob and Peggy are the owners of THE carpet store in Salmon. Dave and Jer had already scoped out the particular carpet they wanted for the loft, so when we got there on Tuesday all we had to do was tell Peggy we wanted 64 linear feet. Her sweet round face lit up with pleasure and she graciously conducted us out to the warehouse so Dave could show her exactly which carpet he had in mind. On the way she laughingly explained to us the reason we had not been able to contact the store by phone: her grandsons had been playing in the warehouse and had left the phone off the hook. Before that event Peggy had not even known there was a phone in the warehouse; although she had been puzzled by hearing what sounded like a radio instead of a dial tone when she lifted the receiver…

Bob is a large, jovial, and very sweet man. He smiles a lot and un-self-consciously told me I was ‘sure a pretty lady’. He duly measured out the yards and yards of heavy carpet, heaved himself to his feet, hitched up his britches, smiled, and suggested that perhaps this huge roll might be a little heavy for mere men to carry up to the loft by hand; would we like him to cut it into room sized pieces…

In the end Bob loaned us his tape measure to determine exactly what sized pieces he should cut, his truck to carry the resulting four rolls through town to the loft (because the 12 foot rolls would stick out of Jerry’s truck 6 feet - though Bob never made mention of it), and an iron for gluing the seams. Bob and Peggy made us feel like their best friends – that is amazing service!
