Warning.....Brag Blog
Well, I've been trying to figure out how to artfully slip into a blog all the good news about our boys without sounding braggy, and I've decided it can't be done! So, I'm just going to come out with it and brag a little.
We are so proud of Matt and Thom and sometimes find ourselves scratching our heads and trying to figure out how they got so smart - I mean, we knew them from pups, so to speak, and you should look at them now!
Matt is in his 4th year of Medical School in Chicago. He has done rotation stints at Mount Sinai Hospital, Cook County Hospital Emergency ( of ER fame), the University of Washington, and is now at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He is narrowing is interest down to Opthalmology and is spending the last weeks of this current rotation in the retina unit of the Mayo Clinic - imagine, a whole world exists where people only study and work on the very back of the eye. He finds the work fascinating and the people he is working with are energized, intelligent and inspiring.
His sweet wife Monika, and kids Alexis, Madelyn and baby Elijah look forward to his weekend visits home. They have a darling house with a charming yard in Waukegan, Illinois. Next summer he hopes to do his residency in opthalmology somewhere in the NW united states, he is applying to 50 varied locations this Fall.
Thommy, known professionally as Thom, has just finished a summer internship doing lawyerly things for the Army Corps of Engineers in Anchorage, Alaska. I think he was delighted with winning this position, as he has wanted to see Alaska since he was in grade 10. He spent a fair amount of time mountain climbing and hiking while he was there.
Now he is doing an 'ex'-ternship with the one of the seven Supreme Court Justices of California in San Francisco, as well as editing the Hastings law journal - these two activities keep him busy 15 hours a day and he is absolutely loving the challenge. He and his girlfriend (who is also working with the Supreme Court - will I ever feel intimidated!) will be coming to Gibbs for Thanksgiving. I can't wait!
See - that was fun for me and nearly painless for you! :)

Yeah, like maybe our house was close to radioactive waste when Matt and I were little. Get it? Like the ninja turtles. Nevermind.
