A Grand Celebration
It was my Dad's 79th birthday yesterday and we had a great party. My sister and her children drove up from Texas - a Texas sized feat in itself, I assure you! She oversaw the washing and use of our family's 150 year old Wedgewood dishes. The cups don't even have handles, and the plates are quite small - people probably ate less in those days!
Dinner included steak, garden fresh corn on the cob, broccoli, and green beans. For dessert we had Dad's favourite: huckleberry pie with Breyer's vanilla ice cream, which we enjoyed on the deck within earshot of the creek.
We had home made cherry wine and Texas sauvignon blanc. We had candles and presents. We sang 'Happy Birthday' and toasted our patriarch. It was a grand way to celebrate a grand man!
