Our Own Garden of Eden

A couple of years ago, when we were visiting for a family reunion, my Dad's neighbors - 1 mile down the road - put us up at their home for the week. Their names are Ann and Bruce; a lovely couple who have moved from Idaho Falls and retired up here 'away from it all'. They are some of the most generous and gentle spirited people we have ever met. We suspect there is a lot of humor and mischief underneath their smiling and gracious exterior; but are content to wait until they are ready to reveal their 'party side'.

Every year, Bruce and Ann plant a huge vegetable garden, much more than they could ever use themselves, and they share it with people up and down the valley. When they learned we were moving here, they offered to let us have space in their beautiful garden. When it became apparent that we weren't arriving until late June, they planted our garden for us!

We have had such a blessing 'going to the garden' and harvesting the fruits of their labor. We've had some wonderful fresh salads consisting of freshly pulled radishes, onions and carrots, freshly cut lettuce and spinach, freshly dug new potatoes. Look at these pictures - there is a cauliflower and cabbage - who would think to grow those? We even had a fresh broccoli. In the buckets are tart pie cherries and WILD raspberries. The raspberries we discovered growing along Bruce and Ann's driveway when we went to babysit the garden while they were camping last week. We KNEW they wouldn't want the raspberries to go to waste while they were away; they would want us to pick them. And pick them we did. They were delicious with cream before bed that night...
