Fowl Companions
I sat on the front porch this afternoon slicing icy strips off of a frozen Halloween pumpkin. The day was cold but the sun was warming my face and my heart. I was tossing the frozen pumpkin pieces to my chickens and they were pecking at them greedily; there aren't enough bugs and garden plants left now to sate their continual appetites. It was a lovely feeling to not have anything more pressing to do for half an hour than commune with chickens.
