We’ve been having so much fun, I just haven’t had time to live it and write about it as well!

While my sister and family were here we spent quite a bit of time exploring the hills on ATV’s, called 'scooters' by Texans, and '4 wheelers' by Idahoans.
Dave is fearless, and he eagerly piloted his vehicle ever deeper into remote, wild, gnarly, overgrown country with me clinging to (and occasionally shrieking into) his back.

The forest is unimaginably quiet and wild that far back in – it seemed as though we were the first to see it. It was also a bit eerie; I had the distinct impression we were trespassing in wild animal territory. I even saw a snag of black bear fur on a bush by a berry patch!

Saturday night we went to the Lemhi County Fair and Rodeo with our niece and nephew and Steve and Midy – that was a blast! On the midway there were 5 rides and 4-5 donut, burger and beer and ice cream stands – that was it! In the exhibition barns there were some lambs, cows, rabbits, and 2 chickens displayed by 4-H students; there were also an array of quilts and canned fruits, cookies and giant squash to be judged.

Then we went to the Rodeo! It was a very small, very well attended, very down home, two hour version of the Calgary Stampede – it was great!

Sunday we went fishing at Wallace Lake on Sunday with new friends Bill and Bobbie. The lake is 5 minutes up the mountain above Salmon as the crow flies, and 45 minutes as a truck wends its way up a winding, bumpy, washboard bouncy, gravel road. The lake at the top is pristine and gorgeous, as clear as glass. Dave easily learned to fly fish and paddle a ‘kick boat’ at the same time. He caught 20 fish; really, he did! Of course, he released them all.

Dad and I were content to cast off the side of the bank; we used lowly earthworms, and brought home 3 good sized rainbow trout for our supper that evening.

What an amazing day we had! We shivered in the mountain morning, baked in the afternoon heat, caught fish, laughed with friends, and lazed around on the deck with freshly brewed espresso after our delicious fish supper. It was a perfect end to a perfect weekend.
